My mom has dementia. Here are my favorite foods for protecting my own brain so I don’t run the same risk. Some of you may not like these, and that’s fine. The goal is to find what works for YOU and your life. The first set: Omega-3 Fatty Acids From salmon, sardine, walnuts, olive oil. I get so much of these in my diet that sometimes.. I feel like a fish 🐟 You can also get good omega 3s from other nuts and seeds, as well as avocados. Then: Antioxidants Blueberries, blackberries, broccoli are my go to’s but I like to switch what I eat every couple of weeks (it is better for your gut to have diversity) Blackberries actually have the most antioxidants per ounce than any other berry. Good thing the small farm I lived on as a kid had a blackberry patch! Finally: Herbs and spices People always forget the spices! Then they wonder why they hate healthy food. You gotta season it! Turmeric, rosemary, dill are three of my favs. Turmeric especially is known for its anti-inflammatory properties! (even though I don't like calling foods 'anti-inflammatory') I want to know what you think. What foods would you add to your list? Or what foods would you leave off? Let me know! |
